The long-awaited Chilcot report into the Iraq war faced further delays this morning after the writer of the two million word inquiry told stunned members of parliament yesterday that he thought he’d left the document on the bus on the way to The Palace of Westminster.
A Downing Street insider told us last night: “Sir John is pretty certain he must have left the report on the bus. Apparently, it was in his briefcase along with his flask and some sandwiches. He’s quite old now of course and these things are bound to happen I suppose. He’ll just have to do another one”
We tried to contact the bus company to trace the driver, but apparently, he handed in his notice and disappeared yesterday afternoon. He was last night named as, Mr. T. Blair, of Islington, North London.
